Stop Being a Bitch

I received a hand written card in the mail the other day from a great friend and mentor.  Opening it instantly put a smile on my face as I read the five lines of text.

Hi Steve,
Just wanted to thank
you for being you.
(and not being a bitch)
George

We have a joke between the two of us that has helped me tremendously when I get stuck trying to live this whole life thing.  George and I were talking one day about some road blocks in my life that were holding me back; keeping me from being my true badass.

They were just a bunch of excuses rooted in my own fears.

That’s when George called me out:

“What if there are people out there who are depending on your message?  What if they need to hear what you have to say in order to make that one small change that could affect their whole life?  And you won’t deliver it to them because you’re scared of what others might think.  Stop being a bitch.”

 It was exactly what I needed to hear.

Stop being a bitch is my switch.  It puts the power back in my hands to make the decision to stretch myself, to be in that uncomfortable situation, and to grow.  It’s my green light to start enjoying the journey.

Think of one short phrase, that when you say it to yourself, a switch flips inside of you and the moment you’ve been worrying about isn’t as intimidating as you first thought.

You’ll know you’ve found it when you say it out loud and it makes you smile and giggle –  just a little.
