Life is the coming and going of people;
a revolving door in which some merely pass through for a moment or two,
while others stay for the journey.
We don’t always choose who enters or exits;
the best we can do is try to understand why our paths crossed
and appreciate their presence.
No matter the duration,
be it 5 minutes or 50 years,
every individual and every interaction has something to teach us;
a lesson to help us grow.
Keep Drifting.

so true, yet sometimes hard to embrace.
Couldn’t agree more
This post made me think about how fortunate we are to be here on this planet. In earth’s brief existence, and our shorter lifespan, here we are on the one habitable planet in our solar system. Maybe it’s more than just dumb luck that we have the opportunity to experience this.
I think you’re right when you say that we can only try to understand why we have the connections that we have and try to appreciate them while we are still here in our present state.
I used to think that when I died, that would be that. Six feet under I go. Now, I’m not so sure. Where does my energy go? People are still connected to me. Is it my spirit that lives on? Not sure.
Anyways, I like the metaphor of the revolving door. While new people enter, other exit what we know as life, but there is something on the other side of that door.
“…but there is something on the other side of that door.”
I love that statement. I never really looked at it from that perspective. We may never have the opportunity to go through the revolving door, see what’s over there, and then come back; makes me want to appreciate my time on this side all the more. Thanks Quinn
First and foremost I truly appreciate the prose. You did a great job conveying your feelings, whilst tying this into your previous posts about locale and what is missing beautifully.
Why must we figure out too late,
or understand not enough.
Live each day and be done with it,
but live each day and behold its beauty.
Time is of the essence, but we may never know;
Discreet interactions in discrete intervals.
Think to know, know to understand;
Stay put, or drift always.
Impress upon others what you see for yourself,
neither revolving too quickly nor too slowly.
Stay the same. But change. Tomorrow is another life.
This is the perfect addition to the post. Life is beautiful because of its uncertainty…
“Stay the same. But change. Tomorrow is another life.”
Thank you so much for sharing this.
Where was this picture taken? It looks like a door made by the “Van Kannel Door Company”.
